[www.inewsguyana.com] – Twenty – Seven – year old labourer, Lionel DeHalley, of Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara was granted $100,000 bail on a simple larceny charge.
Before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, DeHalley pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that on Saturday, August 16 at Diamond, he stole one electric saw valued $60,000 belonging to Mohan Surujpaul.
Police prosecutor, Seon Blackman told the Court that the virtual complainant (VC) is a contractor and employed persons to repair the Diamond Primary School, and on the day in question, the defendant visited the construction site, asked for a drink of water when he stole the item.
Someone noticed him and raised an alarm. He was represented by Attorney –at – Law, Paul Fung – A – Fat.
Counsel said the article was recovered and the defendant had a prior assault charge which was dismissed.
However, the Prosecutor objected to bail under the basis that the accused as positively identified and may pose a flight risk. The father of one will make his next Court appearance on October 21.
