A lab technician employed by the Guyana Gold Board (GGB) was on Monday released on $200,000 bail by Magistrate Judy Latchman when he appeared before her charged with stealing a quantity of gold from the GGB.
Ronald Singh, 30, of Lot 161 Hibiscus Avenue, “AA” Eccles, East Bank Demerara (EBD) denied the allegation, which stated that on February 19, he stole from the GGB, eight ounces, nine grams of gold valued at $2,153,034.
Police Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick told the Court that on the day in question, the manager of the GGB noticed a quantity of gold was missing and as such questioned the staff. During questioning, they received information, and based on that information the accused was called in and questioned. He subsequently returned the gold but was charged for the incident by Police. The Court heard that the man was employed by the GGB since 2013.
Attorney George Thomas who appeared for the accused made a bail application, telling the Court that his client is willing to lodge his travel documents as insurance of his return to Court.
