(UK Mail Online) – England cricket outcast Kevin Pietersen chose to have a social media spat with the partner of one of England’s T20 regulars just before announcing he wants to be part of the team for the World Cup in March.
Pietersen used his newspaper column to say he would love to return to the England T20 side after his starring role in the Big Bash in Australia for finalists Melbourne Stars.
He wrote: ‘If they pick me, I will do my job: score runs and help the youngsters. From what I hear, Trevor Bayliss is a great coach and the environment within the team and the way they approach one-day cricket is absolutely spot on.’
However, KP, seen rightly or wrongly as a divisive influence in the dressing room by the England and Wales Cricket Board, wouldn’t have helped his cause by calling England T20 all-rounder David Willey’s girlfriend Carolynne Poole a ‘muppet’ on Twitter.
Poole had tweeted during the Big Bash, in which Willey played for Perth Scorchers: ‘How old is @KP24? He looks about 55, surely he’s not in his 30s??’
Pietersen replied: ‘I’m old enough to know you should wind your neck in & the grey hair is from dealing with muppets like you.’
Maybe KP had no idea about Poole’s relationship with Willey, with whom he clashed during the Big Bash semi-final.
But Poole is a former X Factor finalist and KP’s wife Jessica Taylor won her place in the Liberty X group after finishing second in another TV talent show, Popstars.
