Guyanese duo, Keemo Paul and Sherfane Rutherford, were selected for the 2019 Global T20 (GT20) Canada that will commence from July 25 to August 11. On the player’s draft that commenced yesterday Thursday June 20, 2019, Rutherford was picked up in the sixth round by the Edmonton Royals while Paul was snapped up by Montreal Tigers in the eighth round.
Meanwhile, Guyana Under-17 selectee, Matthew Nandu, the son of former Guyana leg-spinner, Arjune Nandu has been selected in round 19 of the draft by defending champions, Vancouver Knights. The Guyanese Nationals, Jeremy Gordon and Dillon Heyliger who are now playing their cricket in Canada, were selected for Toronto Nationals and Montreal Tigers respectively.
In Rutherford’s team, his team mates are Kane Williamson, Faf Du Plessis, James Neesham, Ben Cutting and his Guyana Amazon Warriors team mate, Shadab Khan. Paul’s team mates are Sunil Narine, George Bailey and Thisara Perera among others. Although the price tags were not revealed for all the players, the marquee players of each team were the top purchases. The first two marquee players form the respective teams may have earned some USD 100,000 while the third player may have earned USD 90,000.
The likes of Caribbean starts, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Dwayne Bravo and Darren Sammy are marquee players for their respective teams. Meanwhile, the sixth round International buys earn some USD 25,000 and round seven players earned some USD15,000 dollars. The round eight ICC Associate player, Sandeep Lamichhane, earned USD 60, 000 for Toronto Nationals.
