[www.inewsguyana.com] – Justice Nicola Pierre, 43 years and her husband, Mohamed Chand have been hospitalized after four gunmen invaded their Felicity, East Coast Demerara home in the wee hours of Thursday.
According to a police report, at about 01:20 hrs, four men armed with firearms broke into the home, after overpowering and tying up the Special Constable on duty.
The perpetrators held up the Judge, her husband and son, during which she and her husband were assaulted. They took away a portable safe with money and jewellery along with a suitcase with articles.
According to the police, as the perpetrators were leaving the premises they were confronted by an armed security guard at a neighbouring residence, and there was an exchange of gunfire during which they dropped the safe and suitcase and escaped.
The police responded to the report and investigations have led to the arrest of four men, who are in custody assisting with the investigations. The two victims have been admitted to a private hospital.
The crime situation in Guyana should be treated as a State of Emergency.

Zero tolerance on CRIME. It worked in the past, and a special squad is needed very quickly….thos os not looking nice,the COP has his work cut out.
Neighbourhood watch is one of the ways to combat the crimes happening in the country. This is just my opinion, I remember a bunch of deportees were send back to Guyana I think some of these people has no families and jobs so they turn to crime. Some of these people were criminals and did time before returning to Guyana. Police. and the Government should look into these people and see what is happening with them.
It is obvious that crime situation is spiraling out of control in Guyana. My recommendation from a security perspective is to go back to the basics where the government put the police and army on 24 hour around the clock patrol similar to developed countries. I am fully aware that this will be a costly initiative but it is our only option. In addition there should be community policing by members of the community where the volunteers are paid a stiphen to do so – this indirectly will create jobs for the unemployed men and women in the community .
