[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former Beauty queen Carol Ann Lynch accused of killing her husband made appearance before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on Wednesday, January 22, charged with the offense of murder.
It is being alleged that on May 7, 2007 at 106 Ireng Place Bel Air Park, Georgetown, she murdered former Swiss House Cambio Managing Director, Farouk Razac, her husband.
Lynch was represented by Attorneys- at – Law Latchmi Rahamat and Peter Hugh.
Defence lawyer Ms. Rahamat told the Court that in 2007, Lynch was charged for the said offence and the matter was later discharged by Magistrate Gordon Gilhuys on the grounds of insufficient evidence. She told the Court that again the outcome would be the same, stating that there is no new evidence.
The Defence Counsel requested that the matter remain before the Chief Magistrate to expedite the trial.
The accused was remanded to prison and the matter was postponed to February 5 to fix a date for commencement of Preliminary Inquiry (PI).
On Tuesday morning Lynch in company of her lawyers turned herself over to the police after being on the run for more than three years and in 2010, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) had recommended that the murder charge be reinstitute against Lynch.
In a press statement, she said “I am pleading for a speedy hearing so that I can again attempt to put these false accusations behind me once and for all. I am willingly turning myself over to the Guyana Police Force and I am asking that members of the public be vigilant because I have no faith, confidence or trust that my preliminary inquiry will be expedited in an attempt to keep me locked up.
“I am confident that I will again be discharged because I am innocent. I loved my husband dearly and our beautiful family. My only regret in handing myself over to the authorities is that I will be away from by daughter for a period of time that is still undetermined.”
