Former President of Guyana and Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo, has urged the FAO’s Committee on Forests (COFO) to play a more active role in the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals related to forests and food security.
Jagdeo asserted that COFO being the largest repository of knowledge in the world on forests must be involved in the design of forest mitigation initiatives and the inter-mediation of climate funds.
He was speaking as the Chairman of the opening ceremony of the Fifth World Forest Week in Rome, Italy.
The other speakers at the event included His Royal Highness Prince Laurent of Belgium , Mr Vidar Helgesen Minister or Climate and Environment of Norway , Dr Hoesung Lee , Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change , Mr Rafael Pacchiano laman , Minister for Environment and Natural Resources of Mexico and Mr Jose Graziano da Silva , Director- General of FAO.
