[www.inewsguyana.com] – Stephan Jacobs, the Guyanese all rounder has opted to captain the combined campuses and colleges in this year’s West Indies Cricket Board/NAGICO Super50 tournament.
The Malteenoes Sports Club’s first division skipper has opted to play for the regional side with the full backing of the Guyana cricket board, a source was quoted as saying.
The off spinner who had the final say had to apply to the GCB for the permission which was granted willingly on the grounds of promoting development and leadership skills in the young batsman.
The 25-year-old played 14 first class matches for Guyana, scoring 420 runs at an average of 18.26, amassing a top score of 75 runs in the regional arena. He has taken 28 wickets at an average of 33.46 snaring career best figures of 4 for 61 against Jamaica last April.
The NAGICO Super 50 Tournament is billed for early January in Trinidad and Tobago with the government playing a hefty role in the sports development.
The West Indies Cricket Board announced a three-year sponsorship deal with NAGICO insurances as the new title sponsor for the tournament.
The event is the WICB’s marquee limited- overs event and will be known as the Nagico Super50 with the winning team taking the Clive Lloyd Trophy.
The 2014 event will feature eight teams – Barbados, Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC), Guyana, Jamaica, Leeward Islands, Trinidad & Tobago, Windward Islands and Ireland and will be televised live throughout the Caribbean on ESPN.
Matches will be played from January 30 To February 16 in Trinidad and Tobago and there will be day/night fixtures.
