[www.inewsguyana.com] – Scores of local and overseas investors this morning attended the annual Guy-expo investment forum at the International Conference center, where Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh boasted of Guyana’s many investment opportunities that can be tapped into to create mutual benefits for the Guyanese people and investors.
He spoke of the tremendous task that was ahead of them when the current People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) took office. Nevertheless, he said they managed to turn the economy around and attract large, medium and small investors from many countries.
Minister Singh believes investors’ confidence has grown in Guyana, which he attributed to the large size investments that have been made much to the benefit of the economy.
“We’re in a place today where investors entering Guyana no longer have to worry about unpredictability or instability in the domestic macroeconomic environment…because I believe strongly that investor coming into a jurisdiction with his capital wants to know that more than anything that his capital won’t be expropriated,” the Finance Minister said.
Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy explained that the forum has resulted in, “concrete investment that is attributed to the growth of our country….my job here is today is to highlight the investment opportunities that exist for Agriculture in Guyana…I think we have to look at opportunities both short and long term.”
Additionally, he outlined the sectors that investments can be made which includes, sugar, aquaculture, etc and expressed confidence that these sectors will guarantee success.
“And so for small, medium size investors Guyana provides an opportunity right here, feed our own people, give them less reasons to import their own food, as I go on I will show you the many investment opportunities that exist for small, medium and large size investments in the Agriculture sector, they [investors] are almost provided a guaranteed an almost successful story because people will eat and they will eat more than just the basic things.”
He believes there is no reason to import certain commodities into the region since the capacity exists here with investors help.
