[www.inewsguyana.com] – Investigators are questioning the story provided by Police Constable Mohamed Salim, who claims that he was shot in left foot during a drive by shooting in Vergenoegen, East Bank Demerara on January 01.
As a matter of fact, investigators are convinced that the Constable might have shot himself. Police sources close to the investigation told iNews that the Police Constable, who is stationed in ‘D’ Division (West Demerara/East Bank Essequibo), might have been in possession of an unlicensed weapon when he accidentally shot himself.
Police in a media report had noted that the Constable was on the main road at Vergenoegen, when a motor vehicle drove past from which shots were discharged at him.
iNews understands that after the shooting, Constable Salim took a decision to catch a taxi and return home instead of going to the hospital. Additionally, investigators noted that the positioning of the bullet wound suggests that the rank was either shot by himself or by someone who was standing very close to him.
However, the Constable’s hands were not tested for gun powder residue to confirm if he fired a weapon. Constable Salim usually performs patrol duties in the Police ‘D’ Division. [Leroy Smith]
