A Police Constable who was found to be above the legal alcohol limit, following a serious accident on the Stewartville Public Road, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Friday night that resulted in a pedestrian being hospitalised, is under close arrest at the Leonora Police Station.
According to the police, their investigations revealed that about 22:40hrs, the off duty rank was proceeding east along the northern carriageway of the road in a hire car, of which he has a licence to operate, when the pedestrian Quintin Anderson, 49, of Uitvlugt, WCD, allegedly crossed the road from south to north into the path of the vehicle resulting in a collision.
As a result of the impact, the pedestrian, who fell onto the road surface, was picked up in a conscious state and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where he is currently admitted, in a stable condition, with a fractured left foot.
The policeman, 24, of Vreed-en-Hoop, WCD and stationed in A Division, is assisting with the investigation.
