[www.inewsguyana.com] – Police in India are praising a teenage girl who allegedly cut off her uncle’s penis as he attempted to rape her.
The report comes amid a wave of publicity about scores of rapes in India as well as complaints that many have gone unpunished, according to the Washington Post.
Initial reports from the Times of India stated the uncle of the girl was a tantric healer and when she became ill, her mother took her to see him. Claiming the girl was under the influence of a supernatural power, he took her into a private room where he tried to have sex with her. When she protested, he allegedly gagged and raped her.
The next day, the uncle went to see the girl and asked her to come to his home, police told the Times. On July 2, she went — this time armed with a recording device and a knife. Police told local media the teen recorded a conversation with her uncle and then, when he allegedly tried to rape her for the second time, she cut off his penis.
Asked whether the Indian teen would face criminal charges for her knife attack, senior officer A K Singh, superintendent at the Alam Nagar police station, told the Independent, “Why should we file a case against her? We should applaud her bravery and courage.”
