[www.inewsguyana.com] – Following an onslaught of criticism after it was revealed that the salary increase for Opposition parliamentarians are in the bank account of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has clarified that this is not entirely the case.

General Secretary of the PPP, Clement Rohee at a press conference on November 16 had revealed that the bank account has been in existence for “as long as I can remember,” and that a certain percentage of the salary of PPP Parliamentarians usually goes into the account.

The General Secretary admitted that the account has a substantial amount of money in it. He made it clear that the Party is yet to decide on what to do with the salary increases – whether it will be given to charity or placed in the treasury.

“My increase usually goes into a PPP bank account…we opened that account many years ago, so many people send their bank account there or they come to the Party and deposit it with the management upstairs,” Rohee told reporters.

But Jagdeo claims that a separate account will be established to hold the funds at a local commercial bank. The Opposition Leader told reporters that the process will be very transparent and each month the Party will decide on which charity the monies will be donated to.

  1. For all the hate mongers of the PPP/C let it be known that the Government of they day made a decision to increase the salaries of all MP’s regardless if they are on the Opposition side of the house or in Government. The PPP/C had no say in the matter. They opposed this increase however they can’t stop the increase from happening.
It is indeed a good gesture on the PPP/C part to give back this unnecessary increase to a charity of their choice. Let’s not sway from the real issue. This increase was not necessary hence will put tremendous strain on the average man. For the supporters of this Defacto Government you are going to suck it up because it is your Government that executed this unnecessary salary increase.

Be real bu f mostly put on your thinking cap. Rohee is saying one thing about increase while Jagdeo another. The first thing they need to do is get their messages straight.

THEY ARE FULL OF BALONEY 😆😆

  3. Nobody knows that there would be an increase,it just happened. The APNU/AFC could not wait a little longer it’s like the world was coming to an end for them. How will they sustain these increases if the Country cannot earned.

  4. Emile, I like some of your comments but it seems that you are just a PPP hater no matter what. You should try to be fair and constructive. What is wrong if they take the increase and give it to a charity that needs it. That’s a good deed and should be commended . I am not a fan of the PPP but I applaud them for their gesture. I am just wondering if you think this increase to the ministers was justified.

  5. If they were serious, they would have written the Speaker of the House and the Clerk of the National Assembly, and arrange for their salaries to remain at the level they were before the start of the 11th Parliament. But they are not serious about refusing the pay raise.
In fact, Jagdeo is denying another potential Opposition Leader the full salary for the post by taking the post himself then refusing to take the salary for the post because he prefers the much higher retirement pension and benefits.
It is better for a bunch of jackasses to be led by a lion than for a bunch of lions to be led by a jackass.
