[www.inewsguyana.com] – In observance of the 40th anniversary of the National Dance School, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport officially announced the activities that will be held to celebrate this achievement.
One of the major events is the inaugural Dance Festival which will not only see performances from the National Dance School and National Dance Company, but will see dance groups from throughout Guyana participating.
These groups will be engaged in a two day workshop this weekend where they will be exposed to a variety of expressions since the activity is expected to be one where the dancers will be sharing their knowledge and skills.
Another national event is slated for April 29 at the National Cultural Center when International Day of Dance will be celebrated. Preliminary sessions have already commenced in the respective Administrative Regions. Regions 3, 4 and 10 would be meeting for their preliminary sessions.
In his presentation, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony lauded the dance school for the strides it has made over the years and its contribution to the dance fraternity in Guyana.
The Minister pointed out that there has already been positive responses regarding participation in the dance festival. It is anticipated that the dance festival would become an annual event. The festival was planned by a nine member committee comprising of the heads of the National School of Dance, the National Dance Company, the Dharmic Shabha dance group and Classique Dance School.
The festival would also be used as a form of recruitment for the National Dance School. The National School of Dance was established in 1974 following the 1972 Carifesta held right here in Guyana.
