The home of popular television personality, Joel Gansham, which is located in Happy Acres on the East Coast of Demerara, was burglarised and the perpetrators escaped allegedly with over $7.5M in cash and jewellery.
This publication understands that Gansham left home at about 20:00hrs on Saturday evening to attend a social function and upon his return home at 00:30hrs, he saw his dogs out of the yard. At that time, he thought that something was amiss.
Gansham then opened his front access door and realised that the lights in his house were on although he recalled turning them off before leaving home.
This prompted him to head straight to his bedroom and upon checking, the entire area was ransacked. A closer inspected unearthed the disappearance of more than $2.5M in cash and over $5M in jewellery.
A visibly shaken Gansham told this publication that he immediately ran out of the house and raised an alarm. “I ran straight to my neighbours who has armed guards and found out if he saw or heard anything while relating what had occurred.”
The neighbour, he added told him that he heard noises emanating from the back of the house but thought it was him. Nevertheless, he contacted the Police who arrived promptly and launched an investigation.
“When the Police arrived, I went in with them and upon checking; all my diamond, ruby and other expensive rings, necklaces and chains are gone… All my brand name sunglasses and colognes are missing…” Gansham noted.
In addition, Gansham noted that several high end phones were also stolen. The police have dusted the property for finger prints as they continue their investigations. No arrests have been made.
