The usually quiet community of Blenheim, located on the Island of Leguan, Region Two, was yesterday thrown into panic mode following continuous rainfall coupled with heavy winds that led to the destruction of utility poles and houses.
INews understands that some residents are of the view that their island had experienced a “small twister” given the state of the above-mentioned community when the rains and heavy winds finally ceased.
Some villagers lamented that they are suffering from prolonged power outage since a few of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) poles were badly damaged. some of them fell in the pathway of a few of the houses in Blenheim.
Residents say that should they experience another disaster like that of yesterday (Sunday) they may not be able to recover financially since many properties/homes were adversely affected on this occasion. (Kristen Macklingam)
