[www.inewsguyana.com] – Alliance For Change (AFC) Leader Khemraj Ramjattan has distanced the party from its Region Six Councillor Haseef Yusuf who recently stirred up controversy and uproar in the statutory Regional Democratic Council monthly meeting.
According to Ramjattan, Yusuf is a rogue Councillor, is no longer a member of the AFC and is being illegitimately influenced by the ruling People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) “who wants to undermine the AFC’s support in Berbice.”
Yusuf broke ranks with the AFC and moved a motion calling on the Party and other opposition parties in parliament to support the passage of the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering of Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Amendment Bill.
“I was informed that he is very close friends with Anil Nandlall who wants to undermine the AFC’s support in Berbice and is working on the vulnerable like Yusuf and has certainly been successful in that regard,” Ramjattan told iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) during a telephone interview.
Ramjattan said the developments are most unfortunate and there is nothing the AFC can do at this point but ask him to step down or make it clear that he does not represent the Party in his letters and motions.
“He hasn’t paid his subscription in years and we will work towards letting people know that he does not represent us when he speaks and acts.”
Ramjattan told iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) that the AFC position on the passage of the AML/CFT Bill is disciplined, maintaining that the Public Procurement Commission (PPC) should be established first.
“As a matter of fact it was Yusuf who had strongly support the establishment of the Procurement commission in 2011 and now he changed his mind, but that’s how politics is, you can be bought and sold, it’s sad,” Ramjattan added.
