Guyana Amazon Warriors Coach Roger Harper has given an update ahead of the start of the Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) campaign and said the squad is coming together ahead of the opener away to St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots on 30 June.

The former off-spin all-rounder, who was capped 25 times at Test level (and claimed 46 wickets) also made 105 One-Day International appearances (taking 100 wickets) for the West Indies, and has returned to coach his native Guyana for a second spell.

amazon 1Speaking on Tuesday as the training camp got underway in Guyana, and with skipper Martin Guptill and Adam Zampa due to link up over the weekend, Harper said the squad members are building towards their CPL opener.

“We’re building on teamwork (this week) so the guys can get to know each other better and come together as a team and working with and for each other. We’re expecting (Sohail) Tanvir to come later on this evening and Dwayne Smith to come in the morning.

“I think we have a pretty good all round squad. It’s a Twenty20 format and these guys have got the skills for the Twenty20 format, so it’s all about how well we can play collectively as a team and on each match day. After the camp we go straight off to St. Kitts for the competition!”
