[www.inewsguyana.com] – Gold was the order of the day for the Guyanese Table Tennis team that returned home from an Interland Championships and Developmental Engagement meet in Suriname.
Guyana which took three teams to the two day affair topped all of the classes.
In the “A” team competition, the Guyanese Senior team of Nigel Bryan, Shemar Britton, Joel Alleyne disposed of Suriname “A” 3-0 and French Guiana “A” 3-1 with the latter beating Suriname 3-0 for the silver medal.
Orin Hickerson, Stefan Corlette, Kevon Corbin were the contenders in the ‘B’ Class categories and again beat off their Suriname “B” counterparts 3-0, and came from behind 2 games to 0 to beat French Guiana 3-2 for the gold.
The junior’s open singles saw 18 players in contention, competing in 6 groups of 3 players.
In the Finals, the Guyanese Shemar Britton beat off countryman Kyle Edghill 3-2, for the win.
Elishaba Johnson, Kyle Edghill and Alec Hopkinson, the junior team, overthrew the challenges of French Guiana and Suriname 3-0 each to take the gold medal.
In the Senior Singles division, which featured 24 players in 8 groups of 3 players saw Nigel Bryan of Guyana contest a close match with Shemar Britton, winning 3-2.
The event included players from Guyana, French Guiana and Suriname and was played on February 28 and March 1, 2014.
