[www.inewsguyana.com] – Top Guyanese distance athletes based in Trinidad, Kelvin Johnson and Lionel D’Andrade ran away with the Rio Claro Centenary 25K on Monday in Rio Claro, Trinidad and Tobago.
Johnson braved the tough course to become the winner of the event in a time of 1hr 30mins and 48s while D’Andrade finished closely behind in a time of 1hr and 33mins. Curtis Cox of Trinidad and Tobago was a distant third in the event.
D’Andrade related his thoughts on the race, making reference to the tumultuous course.
“It was a hilly and tough race. I started cramping up at the 20K mark. But I am feeling good,” D’Andrade quipped.
Meanwhile both Johnson and D’Andrade will be clashing again at the Venture Credit Union 5K scheduled for September 14 in Trinidad, only this time the event will feature Guyana’s top distance athlete in Cleveland Forde.
