[www.inewsguyana.com] – Despite boasting of being able to meet the power demand for the holiday season, the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Company continues on its usual trend of playing “fairy lights” with the people of Guyana.
Thousands of Guyanese have reported continuous power outages over the past week, especially in Georgetown, West Coast Demerara, West Bank Demerara, East Bank Demerara and East Bank Essequibo.
Only last week residents of Essequibo suffered over 48 hours of power outage and residents had to resort to dumping spoiled meat and other perishables.
The Power Company on the other hand was brave enough to issue a press release stating it is ready to meet the electricity demand during the holiday season.
GPL’s Deputy Chief Executive Officer (DCEO) Aeshwar Deonarine assured customers of adequate power supply during the Christmas season. However, this is quite the contrary.
The Deputy CEO had also noted that GPL has the capacity to generate in the Demerara grid 90 megawatts of power.
