A forum on ‘Environmental Licencing and Enforcement’ to be held in Montego Bay, Jamaica from July 26 to 29, 2016 will see Guyana participating.
During a post-Cabinet press briefing today, at the Ministry of the Presidency, Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman explained that the dialogue will be hosted by the division of Environment Safeguards of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).
According to GINA, Minister Trotman noted that the dialogue will address issues and challenges facing countries in the region with regards to licencing and enforcing mechanisms for the environmental regulatory agencies.
The event also provides an opportunity for IDB Caribbean member countries, along with several Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) and multilateral partner organisations, to reflect on the status of, celebrate progress in, and learn about innovations in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) policy and practices across the region.
The Guyana delegation will comprise Director of Compliance, Ministry of Natural Resources, Derrick Lawrence, Director, Environmental Management and Compliance Department of the EPA, Khemraj Parsram, Manager, Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), Environment Management Unit, Wendell Alleyne, and Deputy Commission, Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC) Keith Austin.
