[www.inewsguyana.com] – Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon has expressed the hope that there could be a resurgence of Guyana as the food basket of the Caribbean.
He said the state of Guyana’s Agriculture Sector continues to absorb domestic and regional attention. Dr. Luncheon was at the time updating the media on the 12th Caribbean Week of Agriculture to be held here from October 4 – October 12.
He said the focus of the event will be on regional and domestic food security and regional rural development and will guide deliberations of Caribbean Officials when they gather here in Guyana.
Central to Discussions will also be the Jagdeo initiative and opportunities for investing on Guyana’s agricultural lands.
It is said that Guyana’s vast tracts of productive land present enormous opportunities for growth and could see Guyana easily becoming once again the ‘breadbasket of the Caribbean.’
Guyana is currently responsible for agriculture and ensuring the region’s food security in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) grouping.
