[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana outplayed Bermuda in the final 13 minutes of the game to walk away with a 59-56 win on Saturday evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, clinching a series sweep in the process.
Down by 14 points heading into the third quarter, Guyana played stifling full court defence to pull within seven points by the end of the period.
In the fourth quarter, Shelroy Thomas and Ryan Gullen took the attack to the Bermudan, forging their way inside combined with timely three’s capped off by a game tying dagger form beyond the arc by Travis Burnett before pulling away with a few lay-ups to win the game.
Gullen ended with a game high 13 points and two blocks while Thomas finished with 12 points and nine rebounds. Burnett score nine points but was named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the tournament.
Jonathan Lowe had a team high 12 points while Jason Lowe had 11 points in the loss. Chris Crumpler ended with 11 points while Captain Sullivan Phillips had a quiet night with seven points.
