At the invitation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), a team from Guyana headed by Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment, Robert Persaud is currently participating in the “Rwanda Mission Convention” which was organised by the UNDP.
Minister Persaud and the Guyana team which includes Mr. Collin Croal, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development, Mrs. Denise Fraser, Deputy Commissioner, Protected Areas Commission, Mr. Alexei Ramotar, Project Manager, E-Government Guyana Project and Ms. Khadija Musa, UNDP Resident Representative/UN Resident Coordinator held discussions with Mr Stanislas Kamanzi, Minister of Natural Resources of Rwanda.
Discussions were centered on Rwanda’s efforts to deal with the issue of solid waste management and sustainable forest management, as well as support for Rwanda in developing its now emerging mining sector.
The possibilities of sharing mining technologies and other support were also explored. Notably, Rwanda’s progress to manage solid waste and enforcement of environmental regulations and even the banning of non-biodegradable materials were high on the agenda.
In addition, the Guyana team paid respects to the victims of the 1994 genocide at the Rwanda Genocide Memorial Centre. [GINA]
