Following the chaotic disturbances and deadly rioting at the Camp Street Prison last week, where 17 inmates lost their lives, the United State (US) Government has offered selected officers of the Guyana Prison Service (GPS), the opportunity of participating in a mock prison riot in West Virginia.
This is according to Natural Resources Minister and Government Spokesperson Raphael Trotman who made the announcement today at a press conference.
Trotman stated that a delegation from the GPS is expected to travel to the United States to participate in a series of exercises in the mock prison riot which will be held at a decommissioned State penitentiary in the US.
Meanwhile, several other countries are slated to take part in this exercise which is expected to increase the capacity of the GPS to respond to prison unrests.
