[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana lost in their opening match against the Dominican Republic to open their campaign at the Central American Caribbean (CAC) championships being played in Mexico.
It was obvious from the beginning that the Guyanese girls were unfamiliar with the artificial surface Guyanese goalkeeper, Alysa Xavier advanced to meet the ball but appeared surprised by the height of its bounce while striker, Agustina Birocho reached high into the air and with the gentlest of taps put her team ahead.
The Dominican Republic would tack on three more goals as they Guyanese girls look a bit better in the second half but still was unable to string together plays to find the back of the net.
With the score on 4-0 and time fading, the Guyanese girls scored a consolation goal to end the game 4-1.
Guyana will face defending champions, Trinidad and Tobago in their next game but will have to win their next two matches in order to advance to the semi-finals.
