[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) played it safe on Sunday, January 25 by deciding not to host their elections during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the Georgetown Cricket Club.
While no elections were held, all members were returned unopposed due to the Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) of October 2014 which saw the divided Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) as well as the Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) nominating the very executives that now run the GCB.
“The GCB made a conscious decision to proceed with its legally constituted AGM today (Sunday-), as advertised a month ago and upon reviewing the GCB constitution contained in the Cricket Administration Act. We realized that there was no need for elections for our AGM, that constitution provides nominations for all the positions that make up the Executive Committee which must be done at the October OGM, preceding the January AGM which resumes for those nominated persons,” according to a paragraph from the GCB’s AGM Minutes.
“The Minister has uselessly reserved the right to set the date for the elections of GCB as stated in Article 17of the said Act. It is a very simple technicality, but very significant”
Drubahadur returned as President, Fizul Bacchus as Vice President, Anand Sanasie as Secretary, Virendra Chintamanie as Assistant Secretary, Anand Kalladeen as Treasurer, Rajendra Singh as Marketing Manager, Colin Europe as Competition Chairman and Col Rayon Griffith who is currently the Manager/Assistant Coach of the Guyana Jaguars returned as Chairman of National Selector and Nazimul Drepaul as Junior Selector.
