[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyana has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Argentina for the establishment of a Consultative Mechanism on matters of common interest.
The MOU was signed by Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett and her Argentine counterpart, Hector Timmerman, during the 44th Regular OAS General Assembly in Asuncion, Paraguay, last Wednesday.
The Memorandum provides for consultations on all aspects of the bilateral relationship between the parties, especially in the areas of political, economic, commercial, scientific, technical, environmental protection, educational and cultural cooperation through meetings to be conducted at the level of Ministers and senior officials.
The two countries also agree to carry out high level consultations on international issues, interaction in the international arena and on issues of mutual interest.
Foreign Minister Rodrigues-Birkett expressed her satisfaction that Guyana and Argentina had taken such a significant step in improving and increasing the level of their relationship which follows the opening of the Argentine Embassy in Guyana last year.
She declared that the Memorandum was important bilaterally as well as within the context of Guyana deepening its relationship with the countries of Latin America.
