Guyana has joined India and 18 other countries to launch the Global Biofuels Alliance, or GBA.
The move comes as New Delhi’s bid to bolster biofuels as a low-carbon pathway receives backing from within and beyond the G-20 group of countries.
A release from the Guyanese Indian High Commission says on the sidelines of the Energy Transitions Ministerial Meeting, a standalone event on Consultations and Recommendations for the GBA was organized on July 22 in Goa, India.
The release adds that nineteen countries signalled their interest in being the initiating members of the alliance, with fifteen countries and nine international organizations attending the event.
Among the many countries that welcomed the initiative were: India, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, Guyana, Italy, Kenya, Mauritius, Paraguay, Seychelles, the United States, the United Arab Emirates, and Uganda.
The GBA has also been welcomed by international organisations such as the Bio-future Platform, the International Civil Aviation Organisation, the International Energy Agency, the International Energy Forum, the International Renewable Energy Agency, the World Bank, the World Biogas Association, and the World Economic Forum.
