A well-known supermarket located at lot 521 Section ‘A’, Block ‘X’ Diamond Public Road, was earlier today robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables after gunmen stormed the business.
INews was unable to make contact with the owners of the Hua Supermarket but neighbours and other tenants in the building revealed that five men were seen fleeing from the scene.
The owner of the building, identified only as ‘Deepa’, told INews that she lives in the upper flat of the property and she had rented the bottom flat to the proprietors of the supermarket.
Deepa said she was at home, cleaning, when staff from the supermarket knocked on her door to inform her that they had been robbed.
She further stated that the proprietors of the supermarket were not present at the time of the robbery, but their Chinese relative who was home was beaten by the bandits. The telephone lines were allegedly cut as well.
INews was informed that four persons are employed at the supermarket.
This is also the second robbery at the property, as the owner of the building disclosed that she was robbed in July of this year. The police were contacted and investigations are ongoing. (Ramona Luthi)
