[www.inewsguyana.com] – A male armed with a gun kicked down the doors at the Campbellville Post Office, Georgetown this morning (June 11) and held four staff members at gunpoint before carting off with over $1.3M in cash.

Investigators are currently at the location trying to ascertain the exact amount of money the Post Office was robbed when the man invaded the premises at about 08:30 hours.

Public Relations Officer of the Guyana Post Officer Corporation Telesha Whyte told iNews that “it is unfortunate to know that the Post Office is being attacked in this manner… we are providing a service to the Guyanese public , a service to pensioners… it’s really sad that persons are taking advantage like this.”

Whyte said the staff, who are traumatized claimed the man took a bag containing $1.3M along with other cash.

There is no security at the location, but according to the PRO, money is transported by the Guyana Police Force after which it is secured in vaults.

She said the man was not masked and could not say whether it was an inside job. Investigations are ongoing.
