[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 22 – year – old Taxi Driver was today (December, 31) remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry on a cause of death by dangerous driving charge.
Howard DeSantos popularly known as ‘Guana’ of Dazzel Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara was not required to plea to the indictable charge which alleged that on August 18, 2013 at Agricola Public Road, he drove minibus BRR 1955, in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Shawn Bourne.
Police Prosecutor Michael Grant opposed bail on the nature, gravity and seriousness of the offence.
The Prosecutor also objected to the pre-trial liberty of DeSantos by informing the Court that he is also charged with causing the death of the President’s College student, 13 – year – old Kojoe McPherson.
The First Form student was struck down by Desantos, who was allegedly speeding on Sunday, December 28 on the pedestrian crossing at Paradise Village (Line Top), East Coast Demerara.
It was during the accuser’s arrest for McPherson’s death that he was charged for the death of Bourne.
Bail was refused and the matter was adjourned to January 19, 2015.
