[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Business School Mini Cadet, Cadet and Junior Team’s and Single’s Table Tennis Tournament will be played this weekend beginning on Friday, March 14.
At a press conference on Wednesday, March 12 President of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), Godfrey Munroe said that organizations like The Business School are key in promoting the sport at the school level.
“This event is very pivotal in providing the support that we need at the schools level,” Munroe said.
Additionally, Director of Sport, Neil Kumar told the news conference that they are looking to partner more with the association.
Owner of The Business School, James Bovell indicated that his organization is seeking to foster the sport at the school level as well as build the local pool of players.
Among the tournament’s objectives are fostering camaraderie among students, promotion/creation of healthy lifestyle through sport (Table Tennis) as well as providing an opportunity for individuals to participate in recreational activities.
According to the GTTA, they will coordinate tournament fixtures and will provide umpires, tables and balls among other resources to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.
There will be an Open Novice Category for beginner level players and players from new schools in view of encouraging more participation in the sport. One team from each school can be fielded in this category; players who have never participated in organized tournaments and cannot make their A/B team in the respective categories 11, 13, and 15.
