[www.inewsguyana.com] – Guyanese across Guyana now have the option to acquire a range of goods and services within seconds by using their mobile phones, thanks to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) Company.

GT&T last evening (Thursday, July 31), launched the second phase of its one year old Mobile Money Guyana offer – SHOP’n GO – boasting of a faster, safe and convenient way to shop in Guyana.

“You have never shopped like this… Mobile Money Guyana is taking your shopping experience to the next level,” Managing Director Mobile Money, Eshwar Thakurdin told the room full or persons gathered at the Herdmanston Lodge to witness the launch.

He explained that after the launch last year with 50 agents and the option to buy credit, pay bills (GPL, GWI, GRA) and send money, Mobile Money now has 90 agents across Guyana, even in remote locations.

“Now with any GT&T phone you can pay for services and goods at a wide range of places, from supermarkets, service stations, hospitals, pharmacies, restaurants, hardware store, general store, boutiques and the list goes on,” Thakurdin boasted.

He explained that no fee was attached, once you sign up for SHOP’n GO and explained that even if you lose your phone your money remains protected.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officer of GT&T R.K Sharma told the gathering that it was a historic development in Guyana as he encouraged all to get registered.

To register you can visit any GT&T Office with your mobile phone, ID and proof of address. Sharma said it was revolutionary as he pointed to how the dependence on other means of financial transactions is reduced.

Also endorsing the move by GT&T was Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh; he believes such an initiative is important and symbolic because it is a good reminder of the change that is taking place in the communications sector.

Dr Singh assured that the administration was working to ensure suitable regulatory environment.

“This is an extremely positive development that will benefit the business community and consumers,” he said.

SHOP’n GO was launched with over 70 merchant locations across Guyana. Just register your phone for Mobile Money and you have a mobile wallet and look for the SHOP’n GO sign whenever you shop.

Among some of the merchants are: Ashmin’s, Giftland, Beepat’s, Starr Computers, Ansa McAl, De Sinco, New Thriving, Woodlands Hospital, Shoe Heaven, Gizmos and Gadgets among others.
