[www.inewsguyana.com] – Banks DIH in collaboration with the Upper Demerara Football Association launched the second edition of the GT Beer ‘Supa 16’ football tournament set to kick off on Sunday, December 14.
An estimated $2.4 million will be up for grabs with the winners guaranteed a top prize of $1 million as well as the GT Beer Trophy.
Second place will receive $600,000 and a trophy while the third place finisher is set to receive $400,000 and a trophy. Fourth place will take home $200,000 and a trophy.
Prizes for the Most Valuable Player (MVP), highest goal scorer, best goalkeeper, most disciplined team, best defender and best coach will also be up for grabs at the end of the tournament.
Winners Connections, last year’s defending champs will have a tough hill to climb in order to defend their coveted title from teams such asTopp XX, Milerock Football Club, Net Rockers, Eagles United, Botofago, Peace Makers, Kwakwani Strikers, Vasco, Silver Shattas, Hi-Stars, Madhia FC, Block 22 Goal Getters, Snatchers, Amelia’s Ward Panthers and Blue Berry Hill.
President of the UDFA, Collis Griffith noted that plans are in place for a grand opening ceremony before the the double header with Minister of Public Service, Dr Jennifer Westford expected to deliver the featured address.
The first will bring together Linden Masters against an East/West Combined team while Blue Berry Hill will square off against Vasco in the feature match. Action is set to begin from 18:30h.
