[www.inewsguyana.com] – Grove Hi-Tech eased their way to the inaugural title of the Stag Beer Super 16 knockout football tournament on Thursday at the Number Five ground in Berbice.
Grove Hi-Tech took a part Ann’s Grove 5-0 to win the final and the $1.5M first place prize.
Domini Garnett was in magnificent form for Grove Hi-Tech scoring all five of the goals in the match-up.
The first was cored in the 13th minute while the other four came in the second half in the 66th, 71st, 76th and 79th minutes respectively.
Meanwhile New Amsterdam United demolished Cougars FC 5-1 to finish third in the tournament.
Leonardo Adams opened the scoring in the third minute for New Amsterdam while Rondel Hazel made it 2-0 two minutes later.
The goals kept coming as forward Adrian Adams netted in the 10th minute through a penalty kick to end the half 3-0.
Cougars showed signs of life with a goal in the 48th minute from Alvin Reynolds to give the team some hope of getting back into the game.
However, that hope was soon snuffed out with a goal from Adams in the 87th minute to put the game out of reach.
Hazel then scored in the 90th minute to ensure New Amsterdam’s third place prize of $300,000.
