A 10-month-old baby of Lot 70 Middle Dam, La Grange, West Bank Demerara is battling for his life at the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was reportedly chopped to the head by his grandfather last Saturday evening.
According to information, the child’s grandfather, 45, was intoxicated when an argument ensued between him and his daughter-in-law, the child’s 17-year-old mother.
A report in today’s Guyana Times said the argument started after the child was left unattended while the mother went to the backyard to attend some chores.
During the argument, the grandfather reportedly picked up a cutlass and upon seeing this, the child’s mother ran to collect her child but the drunken man carried out the brutal attack where the mother was chopped once to the right hand and the baby received a chop to the head.
The baby and mother were both rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital but were transferred to Georgetown Public Hospital.
INews understands that the baby’s condition was, up to this morning, listed as critical while the mother’s condition is said to be stable.
The police have since launched an investigation into the incident.

This is horrible. No excuse, put this man behind bars and throw away the keys. Let’s just hope that both baby and mom recovers fully.
Send him to jail.No trial necessary.
