The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) is now suffering a major loss after their Onverwagt sub-station located on the West Coast of Berbice (WCB) caught alight late Thursday evening.
Up to press time, there has been no disclosure as to how the fire may have started, however, INews was reliably informed that the blaze erupted around 22:00hrs last evening.
The fire has reportedly resulted in a section of WCB being faced with a power outage. It is presently unclear how long the blackout will last.
Meanwhile, efforts to contact the Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle for more information proved futile.
However, GPL will be holding a press briefing today to provide information on, among other things, the fire.
An investigation has also been launched.
