[www.inewsguyana.com] – Management of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) has expressed concern at the recent spate of fires that have occurred across the country and the blame that is being placed on the power company in some instances.
Chief Executive Officer of GPL Bharat Dindyal says that while these claims are being peddled by some, the company is yet to receive an official complaint from any of its consumers in this regard.
“I don’t know of any recent instance where GPL was responsible for any fire” Dindyal said.
The GPL CEO went on to explain that whenever there is a fire at a premise for which GPL provides electricity, its Consumer Network Department submits a basic report to management. He further explained that if the report points to a fire that was electrical in nature then a substantial investigation and report is done.
Dindyal says in most of these cases it is found that consumers are either stealing electricity or the wiring on the premises is faulty.
