Chairman of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL) Robert Badal, in a statement issued last night has confirmed that the company’s Board of Directors has made a decision to terminate the contract of acting Chief Executive Officer, Colin Welch.
While no specific reasons were given for the Board’s decision to part ways with Welch, it is highly speculated that the move was directly related to several decisions allegedly made by him in relation to the awarding of contracts by GPL, more recently the awarding of a contract for meter purchases.
INews understands that current Deputy CEO Renford Homer would replace Welch. It is expected that Homer will act until the vacancy is filled.
According to the GPL statement, applications for the post of CEO are being invited to attract a competent and dynamic replacement to lead the GPL team.
The statement added that the executive management team has been directed to update its five-year strategic plan which would soon be posted on the GPL website and shared with the nation.
