[www.inewsguyana.com] – Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), Michael Khan has been sent on leave with immediate effect by Chairman of the Board of GHPC, Nirmal Rekha.
iNews was reliably informed that the CEO received the letter on Friday, November 15 informing him to proceed on his annual leave, without any reasons being stated.
Upon investigating, iNews was informed by hospital sources that the Board decided to send the CEO on leave as the investigations continue into the disappearance of approximately $3 million from the institution.
Acting in the CEO’s position for the time being is Dr. Dr. Sheik Amir. When contacted by iNews, Heath Minister Dr. Bheri Ramsaran stated that he was unaware of the decision taken by the hospital’s Board of Directors.
The Health Minister said, “I am now informed of this. I will enquire of the Board Chairman. The Board has overview under the framework governing the GPHC. I have adopted an arms – length but informed approach to the functioning of the Health Sector Boards.”
Since the discovery of the missing money was made, the Director of Financial Services and an Accounts Clerk of the GPHC have been sent on administrative leave in October.
It is still unclear to iNews how the discovery was made. However, the Corporation has promised to make public more information as it becomes available.
