In ensuring that there is a secured shopping environment this Christmas season, the Guyana Police Force will be boosting patrols in Georgetown.

This was related during the GPF’s annual Christmas presentation held at the Officers Mess, Eve Leary, Georgetown on earlier today.

It was revealed that part of the efforts to ensure increased safety is the splitting of Georgetown into seven sectors as compared to six last year.

These sectors span from Agricola, Greater Georgetown to the East Coast of Demerara.
These areas will include booths where reports can be made. Additionally, specific officers will be responsible for patrolling those locations.

According to ‘A’ Division Commander, Marlon Chapman, foot patrol will be conducted from 07:00h to 13:00h and 12:00h to 19:00h.

Chapman nonetheless, noted that these patrols will be further heightened from December 22 until December 24 and from December 29 to 31. This, he added will allow for safe “late shopping”.

Meanwhile, to reduce traffic congestion, the force said two crash trucks will be towing away illegally parked vehicles, among others.

For this exercise the GPF will be working along with music deejays, City Constabulary, Youth Organizations, taxi services, the business community and several other stakeholders.
