[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Government of Guyana on Tuesday issued a strong statement warning persons involved in criminal activities that the time for their nefarious activities to come to an end is imminent, but has not stated whether it has an actual plan to tackle crime.
As a result of the crime situation, which seems to be spiralling out of control in Guyana, President David Granger on Tuesday convened a ‘high level’ security meeting aimed at crafting a crime fighting strategy.
On Tuesday afternoon, a statement from the Ministry of the Presidency stated initial discussions for the development of a broad base strategic crime fighting approach that will deliver short and long term goals took place.
According to the release, the APNU+AFC administration is sending a direct message to criminals: “we are coming after you.”
Those in the meeting included Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo, Minister of State Joseph Harmon, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan, Minister of Social Cohesion Amna Ally, Commissioner of Police Seelall Persaud and Deputy Chief of Staff of the Guyana Defence Force, Colonel Khemraj Persaud.
“The clear message coming out of this initial meeting is that the Administration intends to move swiftly and vigorously to arrest violent crime in Guyana. More details of the this morning’s meeting and information on further engagements will be made available to the public shortly as the Government intensifies its efforts to tackle the escalating crime situation,” the release stated.
