President Dr Irfaan Ali has announced that government is actively reviewing adjustments in the daily minimum wage and the income tax threshold.
Specifically, he said the matter of adjustments in the tax threshold is on the front burner.
“We’re analyzing the numbers to ensure that whatever we come up with is in keeping with the sustainability of our economy,” he told a press conference today.
Currently, the national minimum wage is $60,000, following an increase last July. However, the public sector minimum wage is higher, at around $80,000.
Prior to that, the minimum wage was last increased in 2017, from an hourly rate of $202 to $255, taking the monthly wage from $35,000 to $44,200.
Meanwhile, this year, the income tax threshold moved to $85,000. Previously, it was $75,000.
