[www.inewsguyana.com] – Permanent Secretary of the Amerindian Affairs Ministry, Nigel Dharamlall has threatened to take legal action against a popular newscast for airing a story, which accused him of being involved in a physical altercation with a member of staff of the Ministry and also engaging in an extra marital affair with the said member of staff.
In a warning letter sent to the Editor in Chief of the newscast, Dharamlall’s lawyer, Sase Gunraj stated, “My client vehemently denies all of the allegations contained in the said news article.
“The said article used words, which, in their natural and ordinary meaning meant, and were understood to mean, that, my client:
- has committed a criminal offence or several criminal offences;
- is abusing and/or misusing the office of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs; and
- is unfit to hold the office of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.”
According to the Lawyer, the report is libellous and has caused his client great “public ridicule, odium, contempt, embarrassment, humiliation, both locally and internationally and has caused disparage to the office of Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, which he holds.”
The letter demands that the newscast retract the report and apologise.
