[www.inewsguyana.com] – The government has come out in full force in defense of Geetanjali Singh – the wife of Finance Minister, Dr. Ashni Singh.
Given the fact that Mrs. Singh is an Audit Director at Guyana’s audit office, there have been several critics calling for her immediate resignation.
These critics include former Auditor General, Anand Goolsaran, who believes that there is a clear conflict of interest. However, the government believes otherwise and is of the view that Mrs Singh is being targeted because of her gender.
Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon told reporters that if the critics’ same logic is used to describe conflict of interest, then the entire country should shut down.
“Geentanjali Singh is being investigated and that is where the gender discrimination comes in. Their onslaught has threatened the professional life of Mrs Singh. It is not the government under investigation by the professional bodies that are licensed…it is Geetanjali Singh that is under investigation,” Dr Luncheon said.
He added, “Me ain’t know where conflict ain’t deh. If we use their argument or definition of conflict then we need to close down this whole country.”
