[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Guyana Government is pursuing extended international observer missions for the May 11, 2015 general and regional elections, according to Cabinet Secretary Dr. Roger Luncheon.
He said letters were dispatched to several agencies/organisations including, the Organisation of American States, the United Nations, Caricom, the Commonwealth and UNASUR.
Additionally, letters of invite were sent to the Carter Centre, the UK branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, India and South Africa.
The Government is seeking to have international observer mission present in Guyana from as early as nomination day, which is April 07 and according to Dr. Luncheon, “so far the results promising”.
He posited that the OAS, Commonwealth and Caricom are expected to field observer missions. In addition, the UN and Carter Centre are conducting needs assessment on the ground, which will determine if and when they will field observer missions for the upcoming elections. [Radha Motielall]
