[www.inewsguyana.com] – Director of Sport, Neil Kumar received a courtesy call from the Goodwill swimming team and members of the Guyana Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) today [Wednesday, August 13] at the National Sports Commission head office.
The team departs Guyana on Thursday [August 14] for the weekend event in Suriname and is expected to return to Guyana on Monday. Guyana is the defending champions for the Goodwill Games.
Kumar is optimistic about the future for swimming.
He said, “When we went to the IGG and I saw how competitive you were I felt very good and it is my feeling that swimming will do better… I feel what will eventually happen in five six years is that swimming will go to Carifta and dominate.
“I think our coaches have been doing a good job and you guys are closing the gap…you are going to be very proud one day.”
Kumar also urged the swimmers to do their best. “Whatever you do, work hard as a team… we will finish the warm-up pool and provide better facilities,” Kumar stated.
President of GASA Ivan Persaud highlighted that the team had the best possible preparation for the event.
“We have been doing our best in preparation for the Goodwill games and we promise to represent our country at all levels well,” Persaud said.
