[www.inewsguyana.com] – General Secretary of the People’ s Progressive Party/Civic, Clement Rohee has expressed glee at a statement made by Former President, Bharrat Jagdeo concerning the wealth accumulated by public officials.
Jagdeo, at a ceremony to mark the death anniversary of Dr Cheddi Jagan, the Founder of the PPP, was intricately rash, stating that “it’s not only Jagdeo and a couple ministers who have big houses, go around the country and see what is happening, go and see the transformation. People use to go with bicycles and donkey carts and to public meetings; I pass by the Square of the Revolution when the PNC has meeting and its traffic jam. They all have vehicles and they say there is no progress.”
Some of Jagdeo’s statements at the event held at Babu John on Sunday, March 08 have been dubbed as “vulgar” given that it goes against Dr Jagan’s principles which the Party has incessantly swore to uphold.
But at press conference on Monday, at Freedom House, Rohee declared that the former President’s statement was politically sound.
“It went down well, in fact when he spoke I smiled to myself and said good shot Bharrat,” Rohee told the news conference.
Over the years, the Party has been criticised for what has been seen as the “alarming rate” at which Ministers accumulated wealth over a relatively short period of time.
